ANXIETY IN PREGNANCY

Death:-  Fears are mainly centered around death, most women have the fear that they may die during child birth. It may be due to some experiences they have heard of or maybe they have seen. . It is not uncommon for a pregnant woman to be worried by fear of the unknown or even death. Often aggravated by horrifying stories related to her by a foolish mother, or unthinkable friends.  But having fear of death while pregnant is unhealthy for you so instead of thinking about death, just think about how your going to reserve the energy to bring forth your baby.

 

Child Abnormality :  Some women may have the fear of having an abnormal baby, or her fear may largely be concern with the possibility that the baby may be a monster or mentally subnormal, spastic or a Mongol.

 

Economic conditions:  Economic anxieties are nowadays mainly concerned with furnishing the home and providing additional comforts, rather than with necessities. In some cases the pregnant woman maybe worried over how to pay for the hospital bills, taking care of the baby if the economic condition is not favourable.

 

Fear of losing shape:  Most women tends to have the fear of losing the shape after giving birth, they may think that they will not look nice or may loss their normal shape. But this is normal, all you need to do is to eat the right food you need and try not adding so much weight.

 

Environmental fear:  Some women may not like the environment in which she is presently living, and this may cause her to be anxious of moving to a new place where she can be comfortable. Environmental anxiety may also be towards the baby, the pregnant woman may not want her child to grow up in such an environment. In any case discussion with your husband or relative may solve this anxiety.

 

Hospitals:  Most pregnant women dread going to hospital due to the fact that they maybe examined which sometimes might be slightly painful.

As with experience fears diminish during the first 4 months of pregnancy and rare in the later trimesters.

 

Explanation and assurance combined with firmness are all that is necessary. All pregnant women tend to depend upon their relatives and their medical advisor, so that even serious anxieties may be relieved by suggestion and assurance, that all is going to be fine.

 

TYPES OF ANXIETY

 

Fears and fancies, Psychoneurosis and Psychosis

  1. Fears and fancies; A situation where fears are centered around death, money, abnormality and the rest.
  2. Psychoneurosis; this is associated with persistent anxiety, insomnia, palpitations and fear of being alone or in the crowds. In some pregnant women they may be obsessed with washing, cleanliness or repeated checking of everything they do. She may realize that her behaviour is unusual.
  3. Psychosis; this is a situation where the pregnant woman feels depressed, and this may lead to self accusation. Such as having the feeling the she is a failure, wicked, or has let her husband down.

  1. I can totally relate to you! When I was just a teenager and got pregnant, I was horrified and worried sick. With the help I was able to overcome those fears and worries with ease. I reccomend it highly to any new mother that is about to give birth…
