Chapter 137: Ray vs Katarina 1
Chapter 137: Ray vs Katarina 1
Ray had only one goal: kill the spy they tried to protect.
Katarina wanted to teleport her out of the battlefield; however, a blade barely passed her neck as she dodged. "Run..."
A wooden doll protected her as she flew off to the city. General Lagu’s voice echoed through the mind of the vice general, "Protect her at all cost."
If Katarina had to rank the generals by their fighting capabilities, General Lagu was the weakest among all of them, but still he was a general nonetheless. Wood magic was weak on its own, yet the dolls he made were great for being a tank.
A wall of flames came to being on top of the wooden doll as Matt joined her. He was clearly unsatisfied with the orders he got; on the festival Ray had slaughtered 12000 people that he had sworn to protect.
Ray observed Marian taking the strongest one to another place; that only left him against three opponents. Between them, if Katarina wanted to fight seriously, she was the most dangerous one.
Marian too definitely hid her true powers; Ray desired to see her in a real fight; however, his own fight awaited him.
Holding a wooden stick, General started to attack him. Shadows of other beings moved on his back; with a swing of his weapon, he hit Ray’s waist, throwing him to the ground.
More strikes landed on the ground where his body had made a hole; even though they were wooden, the ground was shaking from each attack.
"Something is wrong. Why is he not attacking?" In one second, Katarina debunked Ray’s plan. Instead of the scout, she went for the general.
A slash of purple magic vaporized the ground, heading toward the old general. He wanted to teleport away when a voice came from a man beneath him, "A hole in you, or a hole in the atmosphere!"
With a frustrated face, three equipment came out of his soul to make a shield against the nova blast. "You deserve to die the worst of deaths, Blood Angel!"
Branches of wood grew from all over his body; a million hands layering one upon another tried to block the blast, yet the attack was on an immortal’s level; everything turned to dust as it came into contact with it.
"As expected for a general!" Ray smirked as the blast got weaker and weaker; the last thing it vaporized before fading away was half of the general’s body.
From all directions, blood lances charged toward the fallen general to finish his job. But the general was on Katarina’s arms, with his consciousness leaving his body.
Under normal circumstances Katarina had just reached level 8; she couldn’t teleport a level 9 general, but he doubted that he even could be saved at this point. Not everyone had crazy healing abilities.
"Thanks for opening a spot for me." Katarina’s magic ran through the wounds; as a tank, he had never worked on any healing magic.
That was the biggest downside of working inside of a squad; their fighting style got reliant on others. A healer had to heal and a tank had to defend; that made them like an easy target to the likes of Ray and Katarina, who worked alone.
"Wanna fight?" Ray swung the scythe around, satisfied with his new power.
Katarina’s gloves shined. "Gotta say, that thing can do some damage, but now we are both level 8, and you can’t use it for ten days at least." Her killing intent made her whole body shake in excitement. "Do you want to fight?"
A strike came for her neck as Ray teleported to her side. Her gloves blocked the blade, deflecting air and dust from the impact.
In a blink, their fight turned into a teleportation close combat. None of them could land a hit on the other one, and their speed got to a point where they were like moving dots in the sky.
"She wants to take me to the city..." A crowded place with billions of free minds for her to jump between was like a sea of blood for Ray. Dodging a kick, Ray increased his speed.
If someone watched from far, their fight seemed evenly matched, yet Ray was covered in sweat in just a few minutes. Her magic told her how and when he was going to attack; the only solution was to overpower her to the extent that she couldn’t do anything.
"Don’t push yourself, Ray; I won’t kill you. This is my ticket to be a general." What better way to become a general to face the person who killed one just seconds ago? There was a high chance that he could have survived, so she simply made sure the outcome was to her benefit.
Ray slowly fell behind in speed to her; fighting someone that could see all of his moves and know her fight style better than anyone didn’t help at all.
With each back and forth it made itself more clear, and both sides were prepared to fight one another; despite their loose friendship, none of them trusted the other one.
"It’s pointless, Ray; my magic is leagues above yours, just like my words at the festival. The world is unfair that you were born with such magic."
City lights came to his view; for a second he got distracted by a huge magic flourishing on another part of the planet.
"Let me send you there." Katarina’s kick landed on his face, leaving blood and dust behind.
Like a ball, Ray’s body landed in the middle of the city, passing through some buildings on the way. Half of the face was crushed.
The white-haired woman stood in the air, watching him with pity. "All of that work to get stronger, this is it?"
Ray knew she planned to make him angry to lower his guard, and her plan worked perfectly.
People around him ran, leaving out their cars and screaming, ignoring the whole world. Ray’s eyes turned red.
"Inferno’s door."
